Before the start
of the Border-Gavaskar series, no one believed that India would dominate
like this. Everyone was calling for captain's head and most of specialists
had downplayed India's chances. But what has happened -
India 3 Australia 0. It may also become 4-0.
We accept that
this Australian team is very weak but we can not take away credits from India.
In the 1st test India was 12/2 and the 196/4. The test could have gone
anywhere. But Indians kept their cool and MSD made a superb double century.
Same thing happened in 2nd and 3rd tests also. Pujara and Dhawan
played impact innings supported by M. Vijay. They were well supported by Ashwin
and company.
If
we closely analyse both the India England series in England
and India, we will find that India missed the bus when the matches
could have gone anywhere. You have to struck blows at crucial level. India need
to win crucial sessions. This is a young team. Old guards like Dravid and
Laxman are out and may be Sachin is playing his last test in
India. Other senior players like Gambhir & Sehwag are out of
the team. Harbhajan is finding it difficult to be in team and Zaheer is
still injured.
This is a rebuilding
phase in Indian cricket. We must not be too harsh on the team even if they
looses. Australian team suffered a lot in latter half of 1980's and early
1990's, but they persisted with young team and the team ruled over world
cricket for around two decades.
Lets hope this
young breed of Ashwin, Dhawan, Pujara, Kholi, Vijay e.t.c. along
with captain Dhoni will take Indian cricket to a new
height.
