Chinese Navy is many times bigger than Indian Navy. Does the
size only determine the outcome of war? There have been many wars in history
where smaller armies/navies have defeated their larger counterparts.
China being a
bigger country has larger obligations. China can't decrease its presence in
South China Sea as it faces hostile USA, Japan, Vietnam and Philippines. China
and India don't share any maritime border. Chinese shipping lanes pass through
Malacca Strait and India would like to choke China here in Indian Ocean. I
don't think that Indian Navy would fight in South or East China Sea.
India will have
a huge advantage in naval war in Indian Ocean due to proximity to the
Battlefield. Indian Naval ships would have better refueling & resupplying
advantage. Naval Air Arm and Indian Air Force would create havoc among Chinese
ships. P8 Poseidon, Sukhois, Jaguars, Bhramos & Harpoon Missiles would take
heavy toll on Chinese Navy. Indian Jaguars had sunk Nimitz class American
carries in Bay of Bengal during exercises.
Chinese Navy is still not so powerful that it can defeat Indian
Navy near Indian waters. On neutral grounds, Chinese Navy may edge its Indian
counterpart.
