Chirag Paswan's pressure politics in Bihar

There was a time when Ram Vilas Paswan was a more popular leader than Lalu Prasad Yadav. Ram Vilas Paswan chose to focus on center rather than Bihar in 1980s otherwise he would have easily become CM of Bihar in 1990. This was perhaps the biggest mistake of Ram Vilas Paswan and Lalu Yadav soon eclipsed him as a mass leader.

  • Ram Vilas Paswan doesn’t want the same thing for his son. He is openly backing his son as a future CM candidate. He has witnessed how BJP projected Nitish Kumar as CM in 2000 when BJP was a bigger party in the undivided Bihar. There is a vaccum of leaders in Bihar (with JP movement leaders like Lalu Yadav, Nitish Kumar, Sushil Modi fading gradually) and Ram Vilas wants that his son Chirag Paswan should emerge as a pan Bihar leader. These days Chirag Paswan is giving interview to many news portals / channels to remain in lime light.
  • BJP might be using Chirag Paswan to put pressure on Nitish Kumar. Let us think that BJP and JD(U) fights election on 100 or 105 seats each and rest going to LJP. In case of NDA victory, BJP will claim support of LJP and pressurize Nitish to cede post of CM sooner or later.
  • LJP may not be very comfortable with JD(U) as Nitish Kumar has created a new category of Mahadalits out of Dalits to weaken Ram Vilas Paswan. Today Ram Vilas Paswan has been reduced to natural leader of his Dalit caste (not all Dalit casts). But LJP is comfortable with BJP has never tried to undercut the traditional LJP voters. LJP is party of Dalits plus some upper caste leaders and they hardly has any clash of vote bank with BJP.
  • Ram Vilas Paswan has bene in politics for over 5 decades and he is in mid 70s and he knows that he doesn’t have much time left in active politics. Chirg Paswan is a young leader at 37 and Ram Vilas Paswan wants to establish his son as a mass reputed leader before he leaves active politics. The aim of Chirag Paswan is to keep pace with Tejaswi Yadav and beat him in race for new leadership in the state. Unlike Lalu’s sons, Chirag Paswan is educated (having a degree in engineering) and soft spoken.
  • Chirag Paswan wants to emerge from shadow of his father and wants to become a Pan Bihar leader of all casts. He wants to become leader of new Bihar. He thinks that youth of Bihar will relate to him more than a Tejaswi Yadav or a Kanhaiya Kumar. That’s why he is targeting his own NDA Govt. to be in limelight.

These all statements against Nitish Kumar is nothing but pressure politics for more number of seats. LJP will remain part of NDA and fight upcoming election under leadership of Nitish Kumar.
