Yesterday
two Indian Jawans - Head Constable Prem Sagar of 200th Battalion of the BSF and
Naib Subedar Paramjeet Singh of 22 Sikh Regiment of the army were killed by
Pakistani BAT (Boarder Action Team) inside Indian territory and their bodies
mutilated by Pakistani soldiers. As per some reports Indian government has given
free hands to army to avenge the barbaric act of Pakistan. We must be assured
that Indian army will take a bitter revenge. Pakistani soldiers/terrorists had beheaded
one Indian soldier in 2013 & took his head as prize. It is believed that
Indian Army had taken a bloody revenge killing 3 Pakistani soldiers in somewhat
similar manner. In recent times, India has given more than appropriate response
to Pak firings along LOC. In one sector, Pakistan was forced to sue for
ceasefire.
But we should also look into the circumstances of this attack. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was in India and he has always advocated multilateral dialogue on Kashmir issue. But as per Indian policy & Shimla agreement, the Kashmir issue is a bilateral issue between Indian & Pakistan. Pakistan may have killed 2 Indian soldiers to draw the Turkish & world attention on the volatile Line of Control. Another aspect is that some back channel diplomacy is going on between India & Pakistan via Indian industrialist Sajjan Jindal. Pakistani army and ISI don’t like the resumption of dialogue or even some kind of back channel diplomacy between Indian & Pakistan. Pakistan has put Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed under house arrest for 90 days. So Pakistan may be giving signals to terrorists that house detention of Saeed may be just a staged drama and there is no real curb on terrorists in Pakistan. The problem with Pakistan is that nobody knows that who is in power. It is very difficult for any outsiders to know that who is calling shots in Pakistan - PM Nawaz Sharif or Army chief General Bajwa or some army groups/ISI. If India resumes contacts with Pakistan then with whom India should talk - Civilians or military. Military always undermines civilian government attempt to improve Indo-Pak relationship. Vajpayee Lahore bus submit was torpedoed by Musharraf’s Kargil misadventure. Modi’s unexpected Lahore visit was overshadowed by Pathankot & Uri attacks. When Zardari wanted to improve Indo-Pak relationship then Mumbai attack happened. But we must not give clean chit to civilian governments also. Nawaz Sharif has given green signal to Kargil operation when he was informed. He hoped to become the conqueror of Siachin.
These attacks along LOC & Kashmir have put Indian government on very tight position. As India has done surgical strike once and publicized it, there is enough pressure on Modi Government to repeat it. Modi’s Pakistan policy has not yielded desired results. But we should be fair to Modi that all Indian PMs has failed in their Pak policy. I still think that surgical strike must not have been published. Now public will always demand surgical strike against Pakistan. Remember Manmohan Singh didn’t take any military action Pakistan after Mumbai attack and India reaped its benefit in terms of economic growth. Vajpayee also didn’t attack Pak in 2001 and this lead to assurance by Pak President Musharraf that Pakistani soil will not be used for terrorism activities and later it lead to cease fire along LOC.Indian government should leave this matter to Indian army with instructions that this incident must be avenged locally. I am sure that Army will take revenge in its own way. Modi must rethink his current Pakistan policy and the government demonstrate Pakistan that any misadventure will be very costly. I hope India must have created deep assets in Pakistan in last 3 years of Modi government. It is time to use Rajiv Gandhi’s policy of paying Pakistan in its own way. Even if India have to create disturbances in Pakistan or help terrorism in Pakistan then India must take such actions. Pakistan will not understand the language of dialogue. It only understands the language of gun. If this is dirty game, then let us play dirty game & bleed Pakistan & teach a harsh & costly lesson.
