Even
though judicial system is extreme slow, we Indians have faith on our higher
courts. Supreme Court has time & again restored the faith of public through
its judgement. Supreme Court held four accused in Nirbhaya case guilty and awarded
the death sentence to them saying that their crime met the
"rarest-of-rare" threshold. These barbaric men are shame to humanity
don’t have any rights to live in this world. If these men would not have been
awarded death sentence then it would have been defeat of humanity & India.
Even the death sentence is very mild punishment for these animals. Normally we
Indians are peace loving people, whole India rejoiced the death sentence in
this case. This decision has been welcomes by everyone across the spectrum in
society & politics.
Many
so called liberals have hailed this judgement but many liberals have not
supported it.
It is
not the duty of Rajdeep or Barks to decide the “Rarest of Rare”. Why can’t they
be happy that a right judgement has been delivered in this case? They are free
to file a petition against Supreme Court’s judgement that said that Bilkis Bano
case is not “Rarest of Rare”. Why can’t they welcome anything that may not be
in line with their ideology?
But
just look at the tweets/statement of these so called liberals. They are
opposing the death sentence in Nirbhaya case because similar sentence has not
been awarded in Bilkis Bano case. I also think that many “Liberal” politicians
might have similar views but they can’t express their opinion as freely as
journalists. So, we can presume that these people will be happy with the
verdict if similar sentence is awarded in Bilkis Bano case. Remember the logic
which was put forward to oppose Yakub Menon or Afzal Guru Hangings. Many high
profile people had opposed those hangings on the basis that they were against
any capital punishment. They had petitions so many times in Supreme Court in
Menon case and the last hearing of the Supreme Court was done at 3 AM. If they
were against the death penalty then why they are not against death penalty now.
Isn’t it a hypocrisy?. Barkha Dutt even uses the name for the Braveheart girl/Nirbhaya.
Whole India uses Nirbhaya for that brave soul but these guys think that they
are above the normal Indian.
Shashi
Tharoor, Mani Shankar Aiyer, Ram Jethmalani, Shatrughan Sinha, Sitaram
Yechury, D Raja, H K Dua, T Siva (DMK) and many eminent people had urged
Supreme Court & president to reconsider their decision to hang Yakub Menon.
I want to ask them why they have not opposed this death sentence on the pretext
that they are against capital punishment. If you oppose capital punishment then
the opposition can’t be selective. Many times, I am amazed at the selective use
perception. I am also against Death penalty in general but we must not abolish
the death penalty. Now India has used death penalty in very rare cases and
Supreme Court has set up a “rarest of rare” threshold for awarding death sentence.
Nirbhaya case or 1993 bomb blast or Parliament attack etc. was a grave crime
against humanity & Indian state. We can’t ignore these crimes. I hope Death
Sentence will be only used in extremely rare cases.
