Has Nuclear power stopped big wars ?

Just look at the facts - During the 31 years leading up to the first atomic bomb, there were two world wars resulting in the direct deaths of an estimated 78 million to 95 million people. After the 2nd world war, we have not seen any large-scale wars. Today 9 countries have nuclear weapons (including Israel) and unfortunately many of these countries have rivalries- America- Russia, America – China. India-China, India -Pakistan, America-North Korea etc.
What was Cold War – It was a war that was never HOT. It was the nuclear weapons who prevented any hot wars after the development of Mutual Assured destruction military doctrine. The military power always plays a deterrence many times (with or without nuclear bombs). The sole super nuclear power America and allies didn’t attack Soviets during Berlin Blockade of 1948. Nuclear bombs are a massive military power multiplier and no one would like to mess with a string nuclear power. So, it has acted as deterrence for big wars. But simultaneously it has opened a way for limited conflicts and proxy wars. Even During Korean war, American & Soviet pilots clashed over Mig Alley. As recently as in 1999, India & Pakistan fought a limited war in Kargil. The basis of Karil war planning for Pakistan was that Indian would not retaliate due to Pakistan’s nuclear bomb.  But India retaliated and won back its land in a bloody war. It was the American & western pressure which forced India to abandon it plan to attack Pakistan during 2001 stand-off. And the main reason of that pressure from west was fear of nuclear war. Americans & Soviets rivalry during cold war was one the reasons of many wars like Arab-Israel wars, 1971 Indo-Pak War, Vietnam War, Korean war, conflicts in Africa & South East Asia etc.

Even today Indian & Chinese army are facing each other in a military stand-off in Bhutan. Nuclear weapons have forced leaders to think many times before starting a war. The biggest problem of today’s world in terrorism and Nuclear weapons are ineffective against terrorism. Yes, Nuclear weapons have allowed big powers not to engage each other directly. But the wars have been fought on 3rd country or by terrorism at much smaller scale.
