goodwill of government but the goodwill of 1.3 billion Indians.
India has moved closer
to America in last 20 years. India is now a Major Non-Nato Ally for America.
India has purchased billions of dollars of sophisticated weapon system like P8
Poseidon, Globemaster, Super Herculese, ultra-light Howitzer artillery etc.
America has offered to manufacture F-16 in India. Also, India’s relationship
with Israel has improved a lot and it is said that Israel is key to opening
gates of White House for a country.
Russia has become
close to China economically after western sanctions. due to Chinese factor and
desire to capture Pakistani arms market, Russia has supplied Mi35 helicopters
to Pakistan and may supply more lethal weapons. As of now, India is dependent
on Russia as we have so many Russian weapons and Russia only can provide us
some advanced weapons like the Cruise missile, Nuclear Submarine etc. Russia is
taking advantage of these two factors but India is also playing safe by
diversifying its arms purchase.
Russia is very good friend of India but no longer a special
friend. Russia is free to become friends with Pakistan but it will never find a
friend like India in Asia.

2000. In-fact India is a buyer of more than one-fourth of Russian Arms market.
It is not the first time that India is buying Western Arms. India has always purchased
French Fighter Jets in past and they had also purchased arms from Britain till
1980s. More than half of Indian military equipment are of Soviet/Russian origin
and India is diversifying its arms purchase. Indian experience with Russia over
some arms deals like Vikramaditya Aircraft Carrier has been very bad. Russia is
not happy with India buying American arms.
