Iran is locked in bitter sectarian contest for supremacy in
Middle-East with Saudi Arabia & its allies.
- Former Pakistani
Army Chief Raheel is serving as head of a Saudi-led 39-nation Islamic
military alliance (an-anti Iran military alliance).
- The current
Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif life was saved by Saudi Arabia during Musharraf
era. It is alleged that Sharif family has business interest in Saudi. So,
the current PM & his family owes a lot to Saudis.
- Pakistan created
& helped Taliban to capture Afghanistan and Iran supported Northern
Alliance along with India & Russia to sever their own national
interest.
- Pakistani
diplomacy is not as mature as Chinese & Indian diplomacy. Both
countries have maintained good relationship with Saudis, Israelis and Iran
at same time.
- Pakistani economy
is not big enough to buy but more oil from Iran. India is among the top 2
buyers of Iranian Crude Oil.
- India resisted
American pressure to a great extent and continues investing & buying
oil from Iran. Till recently Pakistan was most important American allay in
South Asia and Iran hates Americans.
- Iran alleges that
Pakistan has given safe heavens to anti-Iran militants and an Iranian
General has threatened strike inside Pakistan to destroy militants inside
Pakistan.
- Pakistan is a
Sunni dominated country and Shias have been reduced to second class
citizen. India also has large Sunni population but Indian government has
always treated Shias & Sunni as equal citizen.
- India & Iran wants a stable democratic Afghanistan but Pakistan want the return of Taliban in Afghanistan.
Iran was Pakistan’s strategic depth under Shah regime till 1979
Islamic revolution. Iran openly helped Pakistan in 1971 Indo-Pak war. But the
things dramatically changed after 79 revolution. Iran was against any American
friend and India gradually became a friend of Iran. India (despite being an
American friend since late 1990s) has helped Iran in dire situations when most
countries had refused to help Iran. Many Indian companies like Uco Bank got
blacklisted by West just for doing business with Iran. Despite having 3rd
larges Sunni population, India didn’t neither have any sectarian conflict with
Iran nor India is involved in helping militants inside Iran.
India is a potential
future Superpower and a future UN Security Council member and Iran would
obviously like to have a good relation with India.
